The "World Green Tea Contest" is an international contest that gathers various teas from all over the world every year, and judges not only the quality of the tea leaves themselves, but also overall product appeal, such as design and cost performance. Shizuoka Honyama tea loved by Prince Ieyasu

Shizuoka City is known as the place where Tokugawa Ieyasu, who founded the Edo Shogunate in 1603, spent his later years. In 1607, he entered Sunpu Castle in Suruga Province and retired, and since then he has enjoyed tea ceremonies. Lord Ieyasu ordered the Honyama tea presented to him as ``official tea'' to be packed in jars and stored in a tea cellar built at an altitude of 1,200 meters.

It is said that in autumn, the tea was transported to Sunpu Castle to enjoy its rich flavor. It has been over 400 years since he passed away on April 17, 1616. Please enjoy the ``Honyama Tea'' that was loved by Lord Ieyasu.

History of Shizuoka Honyama tea

The tea produced around the Abe River, which flows widely through Shizuoka City, and its tributary, the Warashina River, is called Honyamacha. Honyama tea has a long history, and is said to have started in the Kamakura period when the high priest Shoichi Kokushi brought tea seeds back to the mainland from China and sowed them in this area. It is also the tea with the oldest history.
